Built in 1983 along the banks of the Singapore River, Liang Court managed to escape the foul-smelling waters as the river underwent a cleaning-up process starting from 1977.
Since its opening, Liang Court has aimed to provide an “Asian Fusion by the River” shopping experience for its customers, following a Japanese theme .
Now, Liang Court has attained the iconic status of being the mall by the river. This is emphasised subtly in the logo by including the icon 川 (‘kawa’) in the logo. Essentially, this means ‘river’ in Japanese.
FUNCTION

Alongside the Novotel Clarke Quay Hotel and Somerset Residences, Liang Court is part of what is considered a "Mixed-Used Complex". It is a type of urban development where multiple functions are available in one area.
In this case, Liang Court fulfils the entertainment and dining functions while Novotel and Somerset fulfil the residential function. What's more, Liang Court is within walking distance of 2 MRT Stations - Clarke Quay and Fort Canning. Transport function, check!
