REPETITION

To retain the crowd, Liang Court opened up more food-themed shops.
Tampopo Loft Culinary Studio opened on 1st June 2017 in the hopes of diversifying what the mall provided. It offered a place for meetings and cooking classes to take place on top of their famous Tampopo restaurant.
Popular Japanese bean snack stall Kin No Mame also opened to provide a range of healthy snacks. Next, the popular Japanese patisserie, Châteraisé, arrived at Liang Court.
In an attempt to gain a loyal group of shoppers, Liang Court decided to open up enrichment centres on their top floor, such as MindChamps and a Taekwondo school for kids. However, according to one of the staff members, it is rare to see a Japanese child enrolled in these centres even though this is a Japanese-centric mall.
Despite their efforts, Liang Court did not realise that the opening of these shops actually further diluted the mall's Japanese culture as these stores could be found anywhere else in Singapore.
THE PAST
THE PRESENT
"The atmosphere used to be very vibrant. The crowd is akin to that of Orchard Road and Takashimaya now"
- Cherri, hairstylist at Barber Minami
However, it has lost its distinctiveness from other malls...
"Now all Liang Court has is edible products - bread, cake, all food. Okay, we have Japanese mart and restaurants but these can be found anywhere."
